Speedcubing can be defined as the act of solving a Rubik’s Cube as quickly as possible. “Solving” means to return the pieces on the cube to their appropriate location, usually indicated by forming a solid color on each side of the puzzle. The most common type of cube is the standard 3x3x3. Other types of cubes are the 2x2x2, 4x4x4 and 5x5x5.

The most common event is the Standard 3x3x3. The 3x3x3 One-Handed is an event in which the competitor uses only one hand to solve the cube. Another popular event is the 3x3x3 Blindfolded. This is where the competitor memorizes a scrambled cube, dons a blindfold, and then solves the cube while blindfolded. The entire process, including inspection and execution, is counted towards the competitor’s total time. There is a growing interest in blindfolded cubing today. People have even managed to solve the bigger 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 cubes blindfolded -- an amazing feat! |
