Star Toronto Open, Fall 2007 - Information
About the Competition
CanadianCUBING is pleased to announce the Toronto Open, Fall 2007 speedcubing competition. The competition will be held on November 24 2007, at Seneca College’s Residence and Conference Centre, which is located at 1750 Finch Ave. East, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M2J 2X5.
Please refer to the map provided for information on how to get to the venue once on the Seneca premises. It will be held in Building I on the map.
This is an official WCA event, and as such all official regulations will be followed. Please take some time to read them over before the day of the competition, especially if you have never competed before.

The following is a list of the events being offered at the competition.
First Tier

Prizes
Prizes for the competition break down as follows. First place in a Second Tier event gets a multiple puzzle prize pack and a certificate; second place gets a DIY puzzle kit and a certificate; and third place gets a certificate. Top three places in all First Tier events get certificates. Puzzles are complements of Kroeger.
Schedule
Time Event Information Duration
8:45 AM – 10 AM Registration All First Tier participants need to be registered and checked in before 9 AM. Anyone competing in only Second Tier events has until 10 AM to register. 75 Minutes (concurrent)
9 AM – 10 AM First Tier Events (2x2, Magic, Master Magic, Megaminx) No set order. Participants will do all 5 magic or master magic solves in a row. 60 Minutes
10 AM – 11:30 AM 3x3 – First Round Average of 5, top 25 moves on to second round. 90 Minutes
11:30 AM – 12:30 PM One Handed – First Average of 5, must complete one solve in less than 90 seconds to finish the average. Top 10 moves on to final round. 60 Minutes
12:30 PM – 1 PM Lunch Food court will be open until 2 PM. 30 Minutes
1 PM – 1:30 PM Blindfolded – Final Best of 3. 30 Minutes
1:30 PM – 2 PM 3x3 – Second Round Average of 5, top 10 move on to final round. 30 Minutes
2:30 PM – 3:30 PM 4x4 – Final Average of 5, must complete one solve in less than 3 minutes to complete the average. 60 Minutes
3:30 PM – 4 PM 5x5 – Final Average of 5, must complete one solve in less than 5 minutes to complete the average. 30 Minutes
4 PM – 4:30 PM One Handed - Final Average of 5. 30 Minutes
4:30 PM– 4:45 PM 3x3 Final Average of 5. 15 Minutes
4:45 PM – 5 PM Break Preparation for the awards ceremony, final calculations. 15 Minutes
5 PM – 5:15 PM Awards Winners are awarded. 15 Minutes
5:15 PM – 8 PM After Party Pizza will be served at 5:30 PM. We will stay in the same area as the competition for the party. -
Costs
The cost to competitors will be a $10 section fee which will include one event. Each additional event the competitor wishes to enter will be an additional $2. For example, if Will Smith entered the competition, and signed up to compete in the 3x3x3 and the 4x4x4 events, the total cost to him would be $12.
Parking on the day of the competition will be complementary in lot P10 on the map above. But you need to stop at Building I and go into the reception area first to pick up the pass. If you do not pick up the pass, the cost will be $8, so make sure you stop for the pass.
Cost for spectators is free of charge. So please come out and watch some of the fastest speedcubers in the country compete.
Food
There is a cafeteria on the campus that will be open from 8:30AM – 2:00PM on the day of the competition. It has everything from hamburgers and fries to pizza, salads, and sandwiches. In addition, there is also a convenience store on site that offers complimentary coffee and all the snacks and beverages you could imagine. We will try to work in a brief break in the middle of the day to give everyone a chance to eat, time permitting. Feel free to bring your own food and drink to save costs.
After Party
We will once again be offering an after party for the competitors and their guests that will commence following the awards ceremony. It will be held in the same room as the competition itself to save time and costs. We will offer pizza with a variety of choices. We will have vegetarian pizzas available, as well.
Accommodations
The venue has accommodations on site for those out of town guests. The cost is an extremely reasonable $69.95 a night, plus applicable taxes, which includes a continental breakfast. Each suite offers two double beds, internet access, telephone, and cable TV. There is an additional charge of $5 for overnight parking. To book online, or find the number to call, visit their website. We suggest booking as soon as possible, as it is subject to availability.
Merchandise
We will be offering a limited quantity of Speedstack timers to interested competitors. The cost will be $25 and it will include a carrying case, but not a mat. These timers are equipped with a data port to allow the timer to be connected to a tournament display. The timers also have the date and time feature that allows the competitor to save 3 times on the timer itself.
We will also have a selection of official Rubik’s brand puzzles for purchase at the venue on the day of the competition. These include the 2x2x2, 3x3x3, 4x4x4 and 5x5x5.
And lastly, we will have two new t-shirt designs printed on high quality cotton available for purchase in various sizes (S, M, L, and XL). These are limited in quantity and will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each shirt is $20, so get them before they are gone. Love the sport? Wear it!
Volunteers
We are always looking for dedicated people to donate their time and efforts to these competitions. If you would like to help out during the competition please send us an email and let us know. We need scramblers and judges for every round of every event. We will provide training the morning of the competition for those wishing to help out.
