Star Vancouver Open 2010 - Competition Information
About the Competition
canadianCUBING is pleased to announce the Vancouver Open 2010 speedcubing competition. The competition will be held on July 3rd, 2010, at Science World at TELUS World of Science, which is located at 1455 Quebec Street, Vancouver, BC.
The competition marks Vancouver's third official WCA competition in the past three years. With each passing year, the scene grows and the competitors' times drop. Will Kris De Asis recapture the national 5x5x5 title? Will Deseree Aune regain the title as the fastest female cuber in Canada? Come out to watch a very unique event!
This is an official WCA event, and as such all official regulations will be followed. Please take some time to read them over before the day of the competition, especially if you have never competed before.
Registration
Click here to access the registration form. Registration for the competition will close on June 30th, 2010. Please be sure to register online to take advantage of the early bird pricing. See the Cost section for details.
Costs
Cost to competitors will be canadianCUBING's standard pricing model. If you register on the site before the close date, the cost is $10 for the first event, $2 for each additional event, capped at $20. If you did not register on the site, the cost is $15 for one event, $2 per additional event with no cap. The registration cost includes admission to Science World for the competitor and one guest.
Additional guests must pay Science World's admission rates. These rates are $21 per adult; $17.25 for youth, seniors, and students with valid ID; and $14.25 for children under 12. Family discount rates are also available. Visit their website for complete information.
For transportation, we strongly recommend using public transit for our competitors. Science World is a short walk from Main Street/Science World Skytrain station (Expo Line) and fare rates range from $1.75 to $2.50. Nearby pay parking lots are available for $10 until 6PM ($7 early bird rate before 9AM).

Prizes
The top three placements in each event will receive a certificate. First place in an event will earn a prize for their achievements.
Schedule
As always, our actual schedule of events will be released closer to the competition once we know the number of competitors attending. But the competition itself will run from 9:30AM to 5PM, so please be there for 9:30AM to check in and gain entrance to the venue.
Food
We will plan to stop for half an hour for lunch in the middle of the day. Science World has a White Spot restaurant onsite; however, it may be closed for renovations come July 3rd. If so, there are many places for lunch in the surrounding area of the venue. All competitors who have a hand stamp have in/out privileges, so you can leave for lunch, and come back in without issue.
After Party
Given the strict end time of the competition, we will not be offering an official after party. Cubers are encouraged to plan their own gathers following the competition.
Accommodations
The closest, reasonably priced hotel to the venue is the City Centre Motor Hotel. We will recommend it if you are looking to stay close to other cubers. Their website can be found at http://www.citycentermotorhotel.com.
Merchandise
canadianCUBING will not be selling merchandise at this competition.
Volunteers
We are always looking for dedicated people to donate their time and efforts to these competitions. We need scramblers and judges for every round of every event. It is a great opportunity for parents, siblings, friends, or anyone that wants to come and be involved but does not want to compete yet. We will provide training the morning of the competition for those wishing to help out. It is not difficult, so don't be afraid! Please contact us to let us know you are willing to volunteer.
For anyone that volunteers and helps out for an entire competition, we will act as a reference if you wish to put this on your resume or college application. We will also sign any high school volunteer hour sheets provided you work the entire competition. But you must arrange this with us before the competition. Use the contact form .
