canadianCUBING is pleased to present the next speedcubing competiton to be held in the Toronto area, The canadianCUBING Classic (C³). The competition will take place on Saturday April 19th, 2008 at the Ontario Science Centre. The OSC is located at 770 Don Mills Road, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The competition is located inside the exhibits area in the big open area called The Great Hall. There will be signs available on the day of the competition to direct you exactly where to go. But you won’t be able to miss the Great Hall.

This competition will be a bit different than the Toronto Open series that we have held the last two competitions. This competition is aimed at giving cubers a chance to set official times, as well as generate exposure for cubing here in Canada. We will have only 5 official events available at the competition. The rest of the days’ events will be spent on unofficial, fun events for the cubers. We will have demonstrations available for visitors to the OSC in order to generate some interest in cubing.

This is an official WCA event, and as such all official regulations will be followed. Please take some time to read them over before the day of the competition, especially if you have never competed before.

Click here to access the registration form. Registration for the competition will open on Monday March 24th, 2008 and close on Tuesday April 15th, 2008. This is done so we have enough time to print everything needed for the day of the competition. If you miss the online registration, you can still register the morning of the competition.

The following are the official events being held at the competition.

• 3x3x3 - 3 rounds in total, 10 minute cutoff time
• 3x3x3 One-Handed - 2 rounds in total, 2 minute cutoff time
• 3x3x3 Blindfolded - 1 round in total, 10 minute cutoff time
• 4x4x4 - 1 round in total, 5 minute cutoff time
• 2x2x2 - 2 rounds in total, 10 minute cutoff time

We will also make unofficial events available aimed at giving the serious cubers something fun to try that they don’t normally get the chance to do at competitions. These will be held in an informal format. It is preferred if the competitors can provide their own Stackmat timers so these can be done in a "side event" style. Minimal prizes will be given for these events as they are only unofficial.

• Team Solve
  • Teams of two or more. Competitors are not allowed to communicate with each other. One competitor makes one move, the second competitor makes one move, and so on.
• Team Blindfolded
  • Teams of two. One competitor is the solver, he or she is blindfolded. The second competitor is not able to touch the cube, but may verbally indicate to his or her partner what needs to be done to solve the cube.
• 2x2-3x3-4x4
  • Basic relay type of race, competitor is to solve all three types of puzzles, in any order of his or her choosing.
• 2x2-3x3-4x4-5x5
  • Same as the previous relay.
• Revolution
  • Pattern panic and light speed. Same built-in rules apply.
• Copy a scramble
  • Competitor must have two cubes. One is scrambled according to a set scramble. The competitor must then recreate the scramble on their solved cube.

The cost to competitors who register online before the competition will be free of charge. Included in the registration is free access to the Ontario Science Center and all of its exhibits the day of the competition for the competitor and 2 guests.

If you do not register online before, the cost of the competition is $10 which includes one free event. Each additional event will be $2 each.

There is paid parking on the Ontario Science Center grounds. Mention the competition to the attendant for a discount on parking.

Cost for spectators is the price of admission to the Ontario Science Center. Please visit their website for all admission pricing information.

The prizes for this competition will consist of puzzle prize packs, complements of Kroeger Inc.

This competition will not have an after party. The entire day is designed to act as one big party structured around the 5 official events. This is also why there is no registration fee for the competition.

There is a cafeteria at the Ontario Science Center for competitors and spectators to purchase lunch.

The closest hotel to the venue is the Crowne Plaza Don Mills. It is about a 5-minute drive from the hotel to the Science Centre. However, the Science Centre has a page with all hotels in the area and their contact information. You can view the page here.

We will not be selling merchandise at this competition as per the Ontario Science Center’s regulations. Save your money and wait until the next Toronto Open competition to purchase all your puzzle needs then. There may be some puzzles available at the Ontario Science Center gift shop, but quantities and selection will be limited.

We are always looking for dedicated people to donate their time and efforts to these competitions. If you would like to help out during the competition please send us an email and let us know. We need scramblers and judges for every round of every event, this includes our unoffical events. Great for parents, siblings, friends, anyone that wants to come and be involved but does not want to compete yet. We will provide training the morning of the competition for those wishing to help out.
