are you going to sell v-cube 3's at TOW 12
If you want volunteer hours for school you need to pre- arrange it. Not all volunteer positions require scrambling. but the non-scrambling ones fill quicker.
$10-15 in my opinion
What is a reasonable price for a speed cube 3by3? And I don't mean the rubiks brand.
You can always volunteer, if you don't understand some part of the notation, I'm sure one of the other scramblers can teach you.
@Dillon.. you can email me at amansandhu0601@gmail.com for further details about the art project/demonstration next week on Thurs Feb 09. Look forward to hearing from you.
Can I volunteer at the cubing comp even I'd I don't have any experience scrambling but still know how to solve the cube and the algorithms or moves like u U' U2 u' U etc.
@Dillon Chan It hasn't been planned yet, as we will need a lot of volunteers and cubes.
You can order cubes from lightake. It's free shipping.

@Sahid Ah, so it's the same demo mentioned by Dave? Alright, I'll be sure to send an email. Thanks!
@ Dillon Chan: "A Toronto area art student needs five cubers for an interesting demonstration next Thursday February 9th, 2012, between 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM down on Ossington street in Toronto. The cubers can be of any age, and any skill level. There is possible compensation for your time. If you are interested and available that day, please contact Amam at amansandhu0601@gmail.com." Like mentioned, email him.
@Cuber, I'd be interested, when and where will this be?
is there going to be new merch at this upcoming comp
Is anyone interested in making a cube mosaic in Toronto? There's more information in Youcandothecube.com. If anyone is interested, leave a comment.
Someone at school says he saw mefferts and V-cube stuff at a Zellers.
Down at the oshawa mall they have the gear cube v cube 5,6,7 in the store mind games.
Yes, in May.
will there be a NCR 2012?
Even if I don't need anything I always end up buying something :P Appreciate the Cubesmith sticker monopoly on the merch page :)
@ Simone: Of course! I already made a list of things to buy.
Looking forward to seeing the TO cube folk. Make sure you come visit the merch table to say hi. ... and buy something ;)
Any estimated date/month of the next Toronto Open? Unfortuantely i cannot attend the Winter one, but I'm hoping for a spring one sometime in March-May. :)
@Sahid Some asian malls have them, in the stores where people rent out little cubes to sell there own things. Like First Markham Place and Pacific Mall, there are very few but they do sell other brands. First markham place had like lan lans and maru etc.
@Peter I would recommend V-Cube for sure. @Sahid Never. Every single non-Rubik's puzzle I have had to be ordered online or bought from the comps. Probably a waste to try looking for anything decent in retail...
Have any of you seen puzzles of any other brand than Rubik's around the GTA area? Like V-cube or Mefferts, etc. I've heard that a someone found a QJ pyraminx at a Zellers before.
@Peter: ShengShou!
@Brandon; by now people in this forum are getting used to me taking every opportunaty to mention our 2nd annual WCA-sanctionned Ottawa competition (NCR 2012 in May) ;-) March 14-16, people from the local cube club will be at the Science & Tech museum to promote [speed]cubing... so if you're in Ottawa those days, come and see members from the club!
The best 5x5x5 cube to buy is......
We've done Guelph, Kitchener, Niagara, Ottawa, and Saint John, NB in addition to Toronto and Vancouver, actually. The biggest reason is that there aren't that many people who competitively cube elsewhere.
@Brandon because finding revnues at other locations could be hard to find
why can't there be more competitions in Canada instead of just competitions in Vancouver and Toronto.
Most of the last few Toronto comps have had 1:15 cutoffs for 4x4 (you have to sub 1:15 in the first two solves to continue).
I estimate a max of 2:00
Does anyone know what te combined limit for 4x4 is going to be? It's normally 3 minutes, but at the last TOW it seemed to be less, although I can't figure out what it was last year, or what it will be this year, if someone would help me out, I'd really appreciate it, thanks!
Lots of rad people at the last Toronto area competition over 20: http://worldcubeassociation.org/results/competition.php?competitionId=CanadianOpen2011&allResults=1#333
@Moose oh I thought you should like only go for if your like sub 20.... I get about mid 30's and my magic broke so I dont know what to do about that... and thank for the advice!
@Cooper just giving you a hard time bud, no sweat ;) and what Moose says is very true. The comps are exceedingly professional and worthwhile, you will gain some valuable experience and have a great time. BTW, don't cube TOO fast: remember, slow down, look ahead :) Helps more than anything with F2L...
@cooper. About asking your mom. Tell her the Toronto competitions are professionally run; you'll get to meet other cubers; you'll learn new tips/tricks; it is inexpensive; that it would be a real treat to go. Tell her you're willing to "give up something" and/or offer to do extra chores (clean up, dishes, etc) -- parents like that you really show appreciation; be sincere. And show her this website. It does not matter how fast you are: nobody will laugh at you! (after 30 years, I have "re-learned" to solve the 3x3x3; I am planning to compete at the next competition I'm taking my kids to... my time is more than 2 minutes!)
@Michael Sorry my hands shake after I cube for a bit and I was trying to go fast and was careless about my spelling... sorry bout that usually very good with spelling and grammar
@Cooper If you average 25 then it would definitely be a good idea to come. You would fair quite well. However, I suggest you work on your spelling :P As for asking your mom, how about "Mom, I RWEALLY want to go cubing"?
if I can average 25 on a 3x3 should I go I rweally enjoy cubing and im not sure how I should ask my mom (first comptetitiom)

is anyone from UofT or near it going to lydal?
@Colin: NCR 2012 is scheduled to be Saturday May 19 (Saturday of the May long weekend).
Yes, that is what happens when you don't type your email correctly. I took a guess that you missed the T in Turtles?
I failed to receive an email upon registering for TOW
-Emily signs up- Guess I won't have a chance to win at 5x5 ^^
When would the NCR 2012 competition be? I'm interested in going
I might as well go to this comp, but I have stopped cubing for a long time, so I might only go for the community hours and chat.
@Cooper: With those times, I'd say you have a shot at coming in the top 3 for sure.
